Berlin native Philip Bader has been a leading electronic DJ and producer for more than a decade.
Recently we had the chance to talk with him about running his own label Out of Mind Records.
Electronic Groove: Hi Philip, thanks for the time to chat with us. First let’s talk about your label, Out of Mind. What’s the concept behind? What genres do you hope to represent with?
Philip Bader: Hey guys. It’s a pleasure. Initially the idea to create Out of Mind was to release music I love. A mix of techno and tech house. I know so many great artists with a huge amount of good music behind them, which I wanted to give a platform to release.
This year I re-worked the concept and look of the label. I changed my style from tech house to only techno. I really fell in love with techno again. From this moment on I completely concentrate straight on this genre on Out of Mind. It doesn’t matter if the music comes from a renowned name or an unknown great musician. If it’s straight proper techno I will do it on the label.
EG: The label recently released UNER’s ‘Different Dimensions’ EP, how did that come about?
Philip Bader: I loved his music even before I met him. It’s a great special style. First time I met him personally at the Sonár Festival in Barcelona. He’s a nice and funny guy. I asked him if he was open to do a record on the label, and he was up to do it. To complete the release, I asked Rob Hes and Christian Burkhard to remix him. Both were outstanding and everything fitted perfect.
EG: What’s in the pipeline for Out of Mind?
Philip Bader: The next EP is from me. I am happy to have the GAIST guys on board for the remix duties.
After mine will be a female unknown artist named ID-22. She’s coming up with two straight intelligent dark techno tracks. Also, Andrea Oliva will be on the label very soon. He surprised me with a massive techno track. The remix for this one is from Reset Robot.
“I like these big warehouse parties in Italy, just magic”
EG: Any special gig worth mentioning during the past four months of 2017?
Philip Bader: Yes, last month in Italy, near Palermo. Like always the gigs in Italy are fantastic. The crowd is always amazing. So powerful and crazy. I like these big warehouse parties in Italy, just magic.
EG: Summer is getting closer, what are your plans for the season?
Philip Bader: Beyond the standard European touring we are working on a US and South America tour. Also, I am looking forward to a little China tour.
EG: Can you name a couple tracks you have been banging during the last days?
Philip Bader:
• Dimension 6 – Uner (Rob Hes Rmx )(Out of Mind)
• Capsule – Pig&Dan – Adam Beyer (Drumcode)
• Abroad- Len Faki (Figure)
• Mind – Gaist (Elevate)
