The hard-hitting sound and style of Spacey Gray is certainly one to follow. His releases and performances are proof of this, as he gets ready to release new bangers on a constant basis.
Now, we invited Spacey Gray to tell us more about his studio, his usual setup, and the gear he uses to produce the tracks he has in store. Here’s what he said:
EG: Hello Spacey Gray, welcome to EG! How are you doing today?
Spacey Gray: I’m well thank you, considering the current climate of this crazy world.
EG: Can you walk us through your studio? What’s your setup like?
Spacey Gray: My current setup consists of Neumann KH120 speakers, Audeze LCD-2c headphones (the most amazing headphones for monitoring), and a Novation Launch Control XL. Until now, I have been producing in the box using plugins, however, have recently acquired a bunch of hardware that will be blended into my productions.
EG: Which DAW is your go-to for music-making?
Spacey Gray: I use Ableton Live.
EG: Can you describe what’s your usual workflow when starting a new production?
Spacey Gray: Usually, I’ll find a nice sound/loop or arpeggiate a synth to make rhythm and melodies, tune a kick to fit the track, and then begin adding layers on top of that foundation. I find this works best for my workflow.
EG: Do you have a favorite spot in the studio where you always feel inspired?
Spacey Gray: Not really, I find some days I have an itch that needs to be scratched and feel aligned with my creativity, so I’ll jump into Ableton and smash out a foundation for a song and revisit it later. I guess when the spark comes, I am sitting at my computer — so to answer your question, that would be the spot, ha! Just bedroom producer things…
EG: What’s your favorite piece of gear in the studio?
Spacey Gray: Currently, the Novation Launch Control XL is my most used piece as it integrates with Ableton and all its automation capabilities seamlessly.
EG: What’s the oldest piece of gear you own?
Spacey Gray: Probably a Pioneer TORAIZ SP16.
EG: What’s the studio’s most recent acquisition?
Spacey Gray: A TR8s.

EG: Is there something you’d like to add to the studio in the future?
Spacey Gray: I finally need to start adding acoustic treatment.
EG: Do you have any fun stories regarding making tracks in your studio?
Spacey Gray: I’m not much of a storyteller. But let’s say there have definitely been some fun moments…
