Prudence and Seizmic on trust, process, and ‘Beyond’

Prudence and Seizmic come together on ‘Beyond,’ a collaboration shaped by shared taste, trust, and a clear instinct for melodic tension.

Prudence, the solo project of Chris Prudence, brings years of experience as a DJ, producer, and promoter from the UK underground, while Seizmic, the North East duo of Matty Douglass and Luke Browell, add their own detailed, emotional approach to progressive music.

Built around groove, atmosphere, and a sense of forward motion, ‘Beyond’ captures the point where their worlds meet. With early support from Franky Wah on BBC Radio 1, the track marks more than a one-off studio exchange. It opens the door to a creative connection that already feels ready to keep moving.

EG: Chris, Matty, Luke, welcome to EG. Where are each of you based today?

Prudence & Seizmic: Thanks for the invite. We’re based across the UK at the moment. Prudence is in Stockport, Manchester, originally from Redditch, and Seizmic, Matt, and Luke are up in Sunderland.

EG: Do you remember how this connection first started? What made you feel there could be something there creatively?

Prudence & Seizmic: We first connected through social media after coming across each other’s releases. There was already a bit of mutual respect there, and we quickly realised we shared similar tastes, artists like Solomun, Eric Prydz, Cristoph, and Todd Terje. From there, one of the lads sent over an early idea, and it just clicked straight away. It felt natural to build on it.

EG: Chris, Seizmic is a duo, while Prudence is your own project. What felt aligned between you that made this collaboration work so naturally?

Prudence & Seizmic: It’s mainly the shared taste and where we’re at musically. We’re both into similar sounds, especially within melodic and progressive, so decisions come quite easily. There’s also trust there, which makes a big difference when you’re working remotely.

EG: Your collaboration, ‘Beyond,’ has already received strong support. Did the track come together naturally?

Prudence & Seizmic: Yeah, it was quite organic. The foundations were already there, so it was more about building on that rather than forcing anything. We wanted to keep the core idea intact and just shape it into something that felt right for both of us. Getting support from Franky Wah on BBC Radio 1 was a big moment. We definitely didn’t expect that.

“Not every idea needs to be pushed, and sometimes keeping things simple actually makes the track stronger”

EG: What was the first spark behind ‘Beyond’?

Prudence & Seizmic: It started from an idea that already had a strong groove and atmosphere. From there, it was just about adding to it, developing the breakdown, and bringing more feeling into it without losing what made the original idea work.

EG: When you listen back now, what does ‘Beyond’ say to you emotionally?

Prudence & Seizmic: Not in a direct sense, it’s more about the feeling. There’s a contrast between the more energetic parts and the breakdown, which gives it a bit of a trip. It’s that feeling of moving forward into something unknown, but still quite uplifting.

EG: Both Prudence and Seizmic have received support from respected names. Is there one moment that really stayed with you?

Prudence & Seizmic: Definitely. Getting support from artists you’ve looked up to for years is always a big moment. It gives you confidence that you’re heading in the right direction and pushes you to keep going. For me, the BBC Radio 1 play was huge, a moment I won’t forget any time soon. Working with artists like Glenn Morrison and Alex Medina has been cool. Receiving support on our Diynamic release from Solomun and Tiësto is still hard to believe, to be honest. Two of the biggest names playing our tracks is always a humbling moment.

EG: Progressive and melodic music asks for patience. For you, what makes a track hold people’s attention over time?

Prudence & Seizmic: For us, it’s about keeping things moving without overdoing it. A strong groove and small changes over time can go a long way. It doesn’t need to be complicated. It just needs to feel right and keep people locked in.

“Stay true to your creative direction, even when it’s not the most obvious or popular choice, because that consistency is what ultimately leads you to where you’re meant to be”

EG: At what point did you realise ‘Beyond’ had the feeling you were looking for?

Prudence & Seizmic: It’s when it starts to feel natural rather than forced. Once everything sits together properly and nothing feels out of place, you know it’s working. It becomes more about feeling than thinking at that point.

EG: Working with another artist can reveal a lot about your own process. What did you learn from each other while making this track?

Prudence & Seizmic: Probably that less is more a lot of the time. Not every idea needs to be pushed, and sometimes keeping things simple actually makes the track stronger.

EG: What is something about each of you that people might not expect?

Prudence & Seizmic: Maybe that the process isn’t as structured as people might think. A lot of it is just going with what feels right in the moment rather than overplanning everything. Our ideas don’t start in a DAW. They come from random voice notes, late-night conversations, or even just reacting to everyday sounds and moments. We’ll separately collect these fragments, then bring them together later and see what actually connects.

EG: If someone hears ‘Beyond’ at the right moment on a dancefloor, what do you want that moment to feel like?

Prudence & Seizmic: Just that sense of being fully in the moment, something euphoric but still quite grounded.

EG: If you could send one sentence back to your younger selves before all this started, what would it be?

Prudence & Seizmic: Don’t overthink it. Just focus on making music to the best of your ability, and trust your instincts and your sound. Stay true to your creative direction, even when it’s not the most obvious or popular choice, because that consistency is what ultimately leads you to where you’re meant to be.

EG: If everything stopped tomorrow, what would you miss most?

Prudence & Seizmic: The creativity. It’s a way to switch off and just be in your own world for a bit.

EG: Looking ahead, do you see this collaboration continuing?

Prudence & Seizmic: Yeah, definitely. We’ve already started working on more together, so this is just the beginning.

EG: Thanks for your time, Chris, Matty, and Luke. All the best.

Prudence & Seizmic: Thanks for having us, EG team!
