Twitch is set to unveil its official DJ category this week. The launch, scheduled for August 8th, will be marked by an ambitious 24-hour worldwide livestream event.

The lineup features renowned artists including Zedd, Zhu, Sofi Tukker, Cheat Codes, Sam Feldt, Aluna, Laidback Luke, Jauz, Sub Focus, BAYNK, RayRay, Michaël Brun, SIDEPIECE, The Dare, Joel Corry, Le Twins, DJBrisk, and HoneyLuv, among others. This global celebration kicks off at 8 AM BST, promising viewers worldwide an extraordinary musical experience.

The DJ program’s inception traces back to June when Twitch announced a landmark deal with major and independent record labels. This agreement allows DJs to stream on the platform without fear of takedowns. The program offers DJs numerous benefits, including access to a dedicated category, a vast music catalog for livestreams, promotional opportunities on and off the platform, sponsorship prospects, and assistance with music rights costs.

To foster this new ecosystem, Twitch has committed to subsidizing the first year of costs. This helps to bridge the gap between revenue paid to music companies and their artists. However, as the service expands over the next 12 months, this subsidy will gradually decrease, with DJs eventually sharing their earnings with labels.

CEO Dan Clancy emphasized the significance of the DJ category launch,  the music industry, and content creators. He highlighted how DJs on the platform uniquely introduce music in a personal, community-oriented manner. He also noted that Twitch now provides a stable platform for DJs to build their brand and community.
