In the days since the tragic news of Nico’s passing, friends, artists, and collaborators have shared memories filled with love, humor, gratitude, and disbelief. Together, they describe someone with a generous spirit, deep curiosity, and a rare ability to bring people together.
Nico had a genuine interest in life. Music was central to his world, but it was never the only thing that moved him. Art, travel, good food, and long conversations seemed to matter just as much.
That openness could also be heard in his work.
His musical roots reached through jazz, hip hop, soul, house, and electronic music. He approached those influences with freedom and warmth, building sets that felt personal, patient, and full of character.
Nico shared several chapters of that journey with Electronic Groove.
In 2015, he recorded the EG.557 New Year’s Eve Special. The following year, he spoke with us about his background, his creative process, and the early days of Ouïe Music, the label he founded with Acid Pauli.
He later returned for EG.1013, recorded during a stay in New Orleans. The mix gathered some of his favorite remixes from the previous decade, including music that had never been released.
For Nico, a set was never just a sequence of tracks. It was a way to connect people, places, and memories through music.
That same feeling appears throughout the tributes shared by those who knew him best.
Friends remember his kindness, his humor, and his open mind. They remember conversations, meals, plans, and the smaller moments that made his presence so memorable.
A career can be documented through releases, labels, festivals, and recordings. A life leaves a different kind of record.
It lives in the people who met through him. It lives in the music someone discovered because he played it. It lives in shared stories, private jokes, and friendships carried across borders and years.
Nico Stojan leaves behind a body of work that will continue to be heard. He also leaves behind something harder to measure: the affection of a community that clearly loved him.
Electronic Groove is grateful to have shared part of his musical story.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, collaborators, and everyone whose life was touched by him.
If you want to donate to his funeral expenses and musical legacy, you can do it here.
Rest in peace, Nico.
