One element which makes dance music so incomprehensibly powerful is its ability to take listeners on a journey. Bona Fide, a deep/melodic/magical house DJ and producer hailing from Belgrade, Serbia, is all about harnessing these properties to capture the essence of music and escapism. Now based in Amsterdam, Bona Fide has had chart-topping releases on All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep, Shanti Radio Moscow, Nie Wieder Schlafen, Magician On Duty, Souksonic and 3000 Grad Records.
With a diverse repertoire of sounds, Bona Fide is precise in his selections, as much of his productions are carefully constructed around deep, melodic sonic textures and tribal grooves. He is known for his ability to seamlessly weave in and out of moods ranging from the dreamy and melancholic, to uplifting and ethereal. Through the combination of luscious ethnic elements, sampled bittersweet vocals and bucketfuls of ocean-deep ambience, Bona Fide achieves a sound that is equally as enchanting as it is danceable. Above all, Bona Fide encapsulates everything that is authentic and genuine about his passion for music, and it shows through both his DJ sets and productions.
Bona Fide released his debut project ‘Wiek EP’ on 3000 Grad Records alongside German DJ Johnny Leoni in 2017. It entered the Top 30 on Beatport’s Deep House Charts. His sophomore release, titled ‘Amirale’ on Shanti Radio Moscow followed suit, entering the Top 20 on Beatport’s Deep House Charts. Another track ‘Prosto’ was featured on a VA compilation by the same label, titled ‘VA Seasons Journeys’.
More recently, his release ‘Volga/Bengali EP’ on Anjunadeep premiered in May 2019, and has received support from the likes of Lee Burridge, Sebastien Leger, YokoO, Gorje Hewek & Izhevski, Lost Desert, Nick Warren, James Grant, Tim Green and many others. The EP entered the Top 3 Releases on Beatport, and both tracks have charted in the Top 10 Of Beatport Deep House Chart for 3 weeks consecutively.
Bona Fide continued to herald further treasure from his studio. Going back to his songwriting roots, he worked on a collaboration track with Lost Desert & Lee Burridge called ‘No Strings Attached’ released on All Day I Dream in June 2020 which charted for several weeks under Beatport’s Top 10 tracks and was featured in Lee Burridge’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. Additionally, he has completed a remix of Lost Desert’s & Simon Vuarambon’s track ‘Bloesem’ on the label Souksonic, which has been regarded as “one of the highlights” of Lost Desert’s All Day I Dream sets in Barcelona & Warung Beach, Brazil.
The coming year looks set to be the busiest of his career, with a very busy schedule full of releases on industry’s leading labels such as Do Not Sit On Furniture, All Day I Dream, The Melody Of The Soul, plus a few more surprises in store no doubt.
