Audiojack pen open letter to Beatport questioning financial model

They are calling for the right to set prices on their own.

Brits James Rial and Richard Burkinshaw, better known as Audiojack, have decided to publish an open letter, directed to the CEO of Beatport, Robb McDaniels. In it, they question how the digital record store sets prices for the work of the artists, and call for the right to be able to choose for themselves.

The duo explain how they have tried to raise the price of their tracks on Beatport, only to have their digital distributor explain that the price is decided by the digital platform itself, depending on whether they are sold exclusively through them or not.

‘We understand that you want to be the cheapest place for DJs to buy music and by undercutting the competition gives a higher market share to your corporation, but you do this at the detriment of the artists that make the music’, they explain while detailing where the money goes to for every release.
