Watergate Club has announced the end of its operations after 22 years, choosing not to renew its lease at the end of 2024. Citing rising costs and changes in club culture, management described this as the only sensible and responsible decision.
The club plans to host a series of farewell  Watergate events in the coming months, culminating in a final closure on New Year’s Eve. In an Instagram post, they shared their perspective on the challenging times facing Berlin’s clubs. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, business has struggled to recover for many venues. High rents, war, inflation, rising costs, and shifts in nightlife dynamics have all contributed to an increasingly uncertain future for clubs like Watergate.
The statement continued, “The days when Berlin was flooded with club-loving visitors are over, at least for now, and the scene is fighting for survival.”
The club reflected on its 22-year legacy in shaping Berlin’s global nightlife reputation. As the club prepares to close, it plans a series of special events, ensuring every artist, collective, and guest has a final chance to celebrate at this iconic venue.
Watergate thanked its diverse guests from Berlin and worldwide. They invited everyone for a final dance, announcing upcoming events including their 22nd birthday.
