Goa Gil, the influential DJ and pioneer of psytrance, has passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, he was 72 years old.
The news of his death was announced on October 27th, 2023 through a statement on his official website. According to the statement, Gil peacefully left his physical body at home on the evening of October 26th.
Gil had been undergoing treatment for high-grade B Cell lymphoma and had to cancel his scheduled tour dates for 2023. After a brief remission, his cancer returned aggressively, and surgery and chemotherapy were not options. He spent his last ten days at home in California, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
To honor his memory, a GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with final expenses and fund the creation of memorial sites. This includes a samadhi temple in Ujjain, India, where annual ceremonies will be held on the day of his passing. A smaller samadhi temple is also planned at his burial site in California for devotees to visit and meditate.
