Born in 1981, Boris Brejcha started his musical education in his childhood. His first two releases in 2006, ‘Monster’ and ‘Yellow Kitchen’ had been released on the Berlin label Autist Records. After four years of traveling/playing, three albums, and a lot of singles, Boris became a constant favorite in today’s club scene. With his ambition and desire for new and experimental musical directions, he shows his audience again and again how exciting minimal techno can be – so much more than just simple.
Boris created his own music genre “High-Tech Minimal“ in 2012, “the intelligent music of tomorrow”. After seven years working together with Harthouse, and his fourth album ‘Feuerfalter’, Boris created his own label called Fckng Serious. Together with his best friends, Ann Clue and Deniz Bul, they want to spread their idea of good music and serious parties around the globe.
With his mystery and talent, Boris has earned an important place in the worldwide dance scene. Now, he is preparing three big streaming concerts. We had a chat with him about the upcoming events.
Electronic Groove: Hi, Boris, thanks for your time today, and it’s great to have you back at EG. Moving ahead to your latest project, we are excited about your three upcoming shows. Can you tell us how the idea was born?
Boris Brejcha: Hello and thanks for the invite. We already had the idea for our livestream at the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic. After we noticed that the situation was getting out of hand, we knew that there would be no more gigs and we had to think of something new, at least for this year. And since I already played a livestream at the beginning of April, it was obvious that I wanted to do another one this year. Currently, this is the best way to give something back to our fans. It also seemed important for us to play three times that day. So that we could cover the most important time zones and the fans didn’t have to get up at 2 am.
EG: So you have prepared three unique shows for three regions of the world. What will be the difference between them?
Boris Brejcha: Really there will not be a difference. We would like to pass on the same feeling to all the people of the world.

EG: And the idea is the audience has a real ‘In Concert’ experience, correct? What are some of the special preparations you have done to achieve this?
Boris Brejcha: Definitely. For this livestream, we rented a warehouse in which we set up our complete stage design. A big stage, a LED screen and lots of lights. We will film the whole thing with three cameras and will also use a camera crane for one of the cameras. The audience will be able to see a complete concert. You only have to dance at home.
EG: Also, you have invited Ann Clue and Deniz Bul to be part of the live-streaming. Why did you choose them and how does their sound complement or add to the experience?
Boris Brejcha: Deniz Bul and Ann Clue are also on our label Fckng Serious. We have played a lot of label nights together in the past. We know each other, we complement each other very well. I think that makes sense. I also want to give my fellow musicians a chance to realize their dreams.

EG: You have an upcoming Halloween event on October 31st in Cologne. Is this your first public show after the general lockdown? What are your expectations about it?
Boris Brejcha: To be honest it is not my first appearance this year. But since there was very little happening lately, I am pleased to be back on stage and be able to share some joy with the people. I have no great expectations. I just wish that it will be a nice party.
EG: During this year you have been very active in the studio releasing new music with ‘Space Diver’ and ‘Cocoloco’. Are you preparing more material to be out in the next months?
Boris Brejcha: Yes, absolutely! Together with my Instagram fans, we made a song together last week. They were allowed to decide how the song should sound in the end. It was very funny and gratifying to see how many people participated. We will definitely release this track this year. In November we will also present a remix I did for the Swiss guys Theydream. And at the beginning of 2021, I’m going to work on my next album, which hopefully will be out soon. So there will be a lot more coming soon.
EG: Your label Fckng Serious continues releasing quality high-tech-minimal music. Why did you decide to create your own imprint?
Boris Brejcha: That was pretty easy. My music has evolved over the years, and whenever fans asked me what genre it is, I didn’t really have an answer. So that way they could better classify me and our label, I founded this new genre. This has been met with enthusiasm. Meanwhile, many are also trying their hands on the genre. That is nice to watch.
EG: What’s next for Fckng Serious?
Boris Brejcha: A lot more will happen on Fckng Serious. 2 days ago Theydream released their latest single ‘Equilibrium’. Also, we will release a remix EP in November on vinyl. We are really looking forward to this, especially because this format is not so common anymore. Afterward, Deniz Bul and Ann Clue will present separate singles, and she is currently working on her first album.

EG: You recently posted a ‘Redemption’ video. What this a personal highlight for you before this pandemic?
Boris Brejcha: Yes, I have posted the video because this venue is currently my absolute favorite. I have never entered such a cool location before. So many lights. It was incredibly spectacular. And I hope that I can play there again.
EG: Can you describe a Boris Brejcha show in three words?
Boris Brejcha: Unique, Intense, Surprising.
EG: Thanks for chatting with us and all the best moving forward!
Boris Brejcha: My pleasure!
